The City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong will perform "Sing the Sounds of English", a performance of educational fun and variety presented as part of the large-scale summer festival "International Arts Carnival" organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Music and songs are one of the most effective ways to help reinforce the sounds of a language. Next month (July), "Sing the Sounds of English" will give children as young as 3 the chance to learn English while having fun and enjoying music.
Following the success of the highly popular "The Snowman and The Bear" & "The Magic Jungle", the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong performs "Sing the Sounds of English", a varied programme with educational value in which children will be exposed to the 44 phonic sounds of the English language. Created by Jean Bunton for the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, "Sing the Sounds of English" is a pantomime of music, dance, story-telling and song, featuring the encounters of Derek the dragon who is searching for his friend Leo the lion. The performance conducted by Francis Kan, will feature story-tellers Matthew Hale and Corinna Chamberlain, a TVB artist.
Speaking on her inspiration for the show, Artistic Director of City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Leanne Nicholls, said, "Singing is an enjoyable way of reinforcing the sounds of the English language. In this performance, young listeners will also be exposed to the sounds of real orchestral instruments on stage. It's a winning combination!"
"Sing the Sounds of English" will be staged at 7.30pm on July 25 at Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium, with tickets priced at $100, $140, $180. It will also be staged at 3 pm on July 26 at Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium, with tickets priced at $90, $120, $160.
Tickets are now available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Group booking and package discounts of up to 20% are available for full-price performing arts/film programmes of the festival.
