The Caritas Medical Centre influenza-like illness cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) spokesperson made the following announcement today (June 12):

     Four child residents (two boys, two girls, aged 2 to 12) residing on the same floor of the Developmental Disabilities Unit (DDU) in CMC have presented with fever and respiratory symptoms since June 9. CMC has arranged appropriate clinical tests for these children, including human swine flu test. The preliminary results of influenza A tests are negative. All the children are receiving isolation treatment and in stable condition.

     Infection control measures within the hospital have been stepped up, including compulsory registration and temperature measurement of all visitors to the affected ward. New admission is suspended while the visiting arrangement remains unchanged. All other child residents are under close surveillance.

     The hospital has reported these cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
