Poll cards sent to electors of Wan Chai District Council by-election
*********************************************************

Poll cards have been sent to more than 6,200 registered electors in Canal Road Constituency informing them of when and how to vote in the Wan Chai District Council by-election on June 21.

"Electors who have not yet received their poll cards can call the election hotline on 2891 1001," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today (June 11).

The REO has mailed to every elector in Canal Road Constituency a poll card, a map indicating the location of the designated polling station, a guide on voting procedure, an introductory leaflet on the candidates and a leaflet from the Independent Commission Against Corruption on clean elections.

"Electors should read carefully the address of the designated polling station on the poll card indicating where they should cast their votes," the spokesman said.

A polling station located at the Scout Association of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Island Region, Tang Shiu Kin Building, 34 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, will open to electors from 7.30am to 10.30pm on the polling day.

Arrangements will be made to facilitate remanded persons and detainees, who are registered electors of Canal Road Constituency, to cast their votes in the by-election.

Electors in Canal Road Constituency who are remanded or detained by law enforcement agencies (other than the Correctional Services Department) can cast their votes at the dedicated polling station located at the Happy Valley Police Station, 60 Sing Woo Road, Happy Valley.  It will be open from 7.30am to 10.30pm on the polling day.

Electors in Canal Road Constituency who are remanded in the Correctional Services Department's custody will be able to cast their votes at the two dedicated polling stations set up at the Correctional Services Department penal institutions.  A polling station located at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, 5 Butterfly Valley Road, Kowloon, will be open for male remanded persons while a polling station at the Tai Lam Centre for Women, 110 Tai Lam Chung Road, Tuen Mun, will be open for female remanded persons.  In view of security concerns, these two dedicated polling stations will be open from 9am to 4pm.

"Electors of Canal Road Constituency who are under remand or detention and express the wish to vote in the by-election will be escorted by the law enforcement agencies concerned to the designated dedicated polling stations to cast their votes," the spokesman said.

"The voting procedure for electors and the venue set up at the dedicated polling stations is basically the same as that of the ordinary polling station," he said.

The setting up of the two dedicated polling stations at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre and the Tai Lam Centre for Women will depend on whether there is any elector of Canal Road Constituency remanded in the Correctional Services Department's custody on the polling day.  An announcement on the opening of these two dedicated polling stations will be made by the REO on June 20.
