Comic book to promote low carbon living
***************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Environmental Campaign Committee :

The Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) has joined for the first time with the HKSAR Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the Environment Council of the Macao SAR to produce and publish a comic book to promote¡§low carbon¡¨living.

A spokesman for the ECC said today (June 4) the co-operation was to echo the theme of the World Environment Day 2009 set by the United Nations to combat climate change as well as the Government¡¦s initiatives in promoting carbon reduction.

He said the comic book was to promote low carbon living in a light-hearted way and it was hoped to encourage more people to join with a view to enhancing energy efficiency, promoting green consumerism and reducing carbon emissions.

Starting tomorrow, the comic book will be uploaded to (www.ecc.org.hk) for download. The public can also get free copies of the comic from the Home Affairs Department¡¦s Public Enquiry Services Centres and the EPD¡¦s Environmental Resources Centres, details of which will be announced on the ECC website.

ECC, founded in 1990, aims to enhance public awareness to protect the environment and give incentives to the community to help build a better environment. It has been organising promotional activities including the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence, the Hong Kong Green School Awards and the Student Environmental Protection Ambassador Scheme. ECC has also provided free waste separation bins to schools, residential, commercial and industrial buildings to promote waste separation at source.
