Labour Department recruits volunteers for occupational safety and health message
*******************************************************

The Labour Department spares no effort in raising employers' and employees' awareness of occupational safety and health. This year, the Labour Department will again launch the "Customer Service Teams Project" to promote safety and health awareness at work from June to September. The recruitment for volunteers to participate in the project starts today (June 1).

"The project is organised to enhance the occupational safety and health awareness of those operating and working in the workplace. This year, catering establishments as well as small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in repair, maintenance, minor alteration and addition works, and sanitary and similar services will be the targets of visits by our volunteers," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.

"We hope to recruit about 250 volunteers to visit more than 15,000 establishments in the next four months to promote the department's services on occupational safety and health and to disseminate relevant information.

Volunteers of the project will conduct a questionnaire survey during the visits to assess the basic work safety and health knowledge of those in charge of the organisations and distribute publicity materials on occupational safety and health as well as the relevant laws.

Members of the public aged 17 or above who have attained secondary school level or above are welcome to participate in the project as volunteers. The volunteers will be given a one-day training on details of the project, basic safety knowledge as well as communication skills. Certificates will be presented to the volunteers in recognition of their service upon completion of the project.

Enrolment forms and project details can be obtained from all offices of the Labour Department's Occupational Safety and Health Branch or from the Central Office for Volunteer Service of the Social Welfare Department. They can also be downloaded from the website of the Labour Department (www.labour.gov.hk) or the Social Welfare Departmentˇ¦s website on Volunteer Movement (www.volunteering-hk.org).
