Broadcasting Authority meeting

The following is issued on behalf of the Broadcasting Authority:

     The Broadcasting Authority (BA) approved the application by Showers of Blessing Evangelistic Ministry (Hong Kong) Limited for renewal of its ¡§other licensable television programme service licence¡¨ for the provision of television programme service in hotel rooms in Hong Kong for a validity period of three years.

     The BA has decided to hold two public hearing sessions for the mid-term review of the domestic free television programme service licences of Asia Television Limited and Television Broadcasts Limited.  The two sessions will be held at the Lecture Hall of the Hong Kong Space Museum and Leighton Hill Community Hall from 7pm to 9pm on June 19 (Friday) and July 14 (Tuesday) respectively.  Members of the public are invited to attend the public hearings and give their views on the licensees¡¦ performance since the licences were renewed for a period of 12 years commencing December 2003 by the Chief Executive in Council.

     The BA also noted that in April 2009, the Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing (CTEL) dealt with 102 cases (258 complaints) under her delegated authority, of which two cases (two complaints) were classified as minor breaches and 58 cases (187 complaints) were unsubstantiated.  The remaining 42 cases (69 complaints) were held to be outside the ambit of the Broadcasting Authority Ordinance.  The monthly complaints figures dealt with by CTEL since April 2008 are shown in Figure 1.  A chart showing the respective natures of the unsubstantiated complaints in April 2009 is at Figure 2.  Please visit the BA website: www.hkba.hk for further information of the complaints.
