Yuen Long strengthens promotion on community cleanliness (with photos)
*********************************************************

The Yuen Long District Office (YLDO) is continuing its efforts to further promote the messages of ¡§Clean HK¡¨ and ¡§Fight Against Pandemic¡¨by appealing for public support to maintain good environmental and personal hygiene. The YLDO is encouraging all sectors of the community to enhance district cleanliness through various promotional and educational programmes.

YLDO today (May 29) staged a bus parade to unveil a series of new promotional programmes on community cleanliness. The parade bus visited six village areas - San Tin, Pat Heung, Kam Tin, Shap Pat Heung, Ping Shan and Ha Tsuen. Health messages on the prevention of human swine influenza were broadcast along the routes and leaflets and disinfectant packs were distributed to residents.

The Yuen Long District Office also distributed sanitiser gels to 150 villages through the rural committees of the six village areas today to strengthen the public¡¦s awareness of the importance of personal and household hygiene.

To show the community¡¦s concern for the elderly, YLDO will soon distribute disinfectant packs to about 5,000 single elderly people through the district elderly support centres of Caritas - Hong Kong and Pok Oi Hospital. About 7,000 disinfectant packs will also be distributed to the residents of elderly services centres in the district with the help of elderly services organisations.

YLDO will hire contractors to clean up the public areas at about 40 old single-block buildings without building management organisations in early June to improve the hygiene conditions of the buildings in the district.

Automatic hand sterilising machines will be provided to the private buildings, rural committees and village offices for installing at the public areas if necessary to encourage residents to take preventive measures against the flu. District resident organisations are welcome to submit relevant applications to YLDO.
