The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury has re-appointed Mr Chan Tze-ching as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Human Resources Development in the Financial Services Sector (FinMan Committee) for a term of two years from June 1, 2009, to May 31, 2011.
Mr Chan is currently the Consultant of the Bank of East Asia and an independent Non-executive Director of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited. He is also a founding member of the FinMan Committee and has served as its chairman since June 2005. He is well versed with the objectives and the work of the FinMan Committee.
A spokesman for the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau said today (May 29), ˇ§With his rich experience in the financial markets, Mr Chan has made significant contributions in nurturing talents for the financial services sector. We are confident that under his leadership and with the support of other members, the FinMan Committee will continue to provide the Government with valuable advice on human resources development and training in the financial services sector. This is important for enhancing the competitiveness of Hong Kong as an international financial centre.ˇ¨
The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury has also re-appointed three existing members and appointed two new members to the FinMan Committee for a term of two years from June 1, 2009, to May 31, 2011. They have ample experience and professional knowledge respectively in the fields of banking, asset management and securities business.
The newly appointed members are Mrs Bethy Tam and Mr K K Tse. Mrs Tam is the Chief Operating Officer of the Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. Mr Tse is an Executive Vice-President of the State Street Bank and Trust Company.
The three re-appointed members are Mr Clifford Chiu, Mr Kevin Lam and Mr Kenneth Wong. Mr Chiu is the Head of Fund Raising and Capital Markets of the KKR Asia Limited. Mr Lam is a Director of the Citibank. Mr Wong is a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC.
"We are very grateful to the outgoing members, Mr David Lui and Mr Ronald Kung, for their past support, services and invaluable advice provided to the FinMan Committee," the spokesman said.
The FinMan Committee has a total of 29 members, comprising six representatives from the industry, 21 representatives nominated by academic and training institutes, professional bodies and regulators, as well as two Government officials.
Established in June 2000, the FinMan Committee aims to provide an effective platform to promote tripartite collaboration among the public, the academia and the private sector; and to examine ways to further enhance the quality and supply of our financial talents. The FinMan Committee advises the Government on the strategies of human resources development in the financial services sector.
