The Social Welfare Department (SWD) today (May 27) lined up a follow-up meeting between the family of the woman worker who died in a gate collapse incident in early May and the Po Leung Kuk, as the employer of the deceased, in which an agreement on further financial assistance to the family was reached.
In addition to $200,000 in donations and ex-gratia payment already given to the family, the Po Leung Kuk took the initiative to set up a $300,000 education fund to meet the needs of the four children of the family.
In the presence of the Director of Social Welfare, Mr Stephen Fisher, the Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, Mr David C H Ho, handed over a cheque of $140,000 as advance partial death compensation to the family.
Mr Fisher pledged that SWD would continue to address the welfare needs of the family.
The fatal incident happened at the departmentˇ¦s Hang Ngai Manufacturing and Hostel in Hung Hom on May 5.
