Police will perform crowd management duties and implement special traffic arrangements to facilitate the public to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on Thursday (May 28).
As a large number of people are expected to turn up at various locations throughout Hong Kong to watch the dragon boat races, crowds and traffic will be diverted to ensure a smooth flow.
Police also appeal to members of the public to make full use of the public transport for attending the races.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully and to pay attention to special traffic signs and instructions of traffic Police.
Vehicles found to be causing obstruction will be towed away without prior notice.
Details of special traffic arrangements to be implemented in Southern District on Hong Kong Island, Sha Tin, Tai Po, and Tuen Mun in the New Territories are as follows:
(1) Southern District
In Aberdeen, Kwun Hoi Path next to the Ocean Court at Aberdeen Praya Road will be closed between 8am and 5pm to all traffic except local residents, Police and emergency service vehicles.
The taxi stand on Kwun Hoi Path will be suspended between 8am and 5pm.
In Stanley, Stanley Link Road, Hoi Fung Path and Stanley New Street will be closed between 6am and 7pm to all traffic except vehicles with permits issued by the organiser, Police, emergency services vehicles and those of local residents.
All parking spaces along Stanley Link Road, Carmel Road and Stanley Beach Road between Stanley Mound Road and Stanley Village Road, as well as the public car park near the refuse collection point on Stanley Beach Road will be suspended between 6am and 7pm.
The taxi stand on Stanley Village Road will be suspended between 6am and 7pm. A temporary taxi stand will be set up at Carmel Road outside Carmelite Monastery.
(2) Sha Tin
Sand Martin Bridge will be closed to traffic from 7am to 2pm. All vehicular traffic crossing the Shing Mun River via Sand Martin Bridge will be diverted to use Lion Bridge or Banyan Bridge.
A section of the cycling track along Shing Mun River between Sand Martin Bridge and Banyan Bridge will be closed to traffic from 7am to 1pm.
(3) Tai Po
Dai Hei Street, Dai King Street and a section of Dai Kwai Street between Dai Cheong Street and Tai Po Waterfront Parkwill be closed between 7am to 2pm to all vehicular traffic except for taxis and those vehicles with prior approval.
Cycling will not be permitted on the closed roads and the cycling track in Tai Po Waterfront Park.
A temporary taxi stand will be provided on Dai Hei Street at the west junction with Dai Kwai Street.
The metered car park in Dai Shing Street and the metered parking spaces on Dai Hei Street and Dai King Street will be temporarily suspended to all vehicles except emergency vehicles.
(4) Tuen Mun
Wu Shan Road between Wu Hong Street and Wu Chui Road will be temporarily designated as no stopping zone between 6am and 5pm.
