Appointment of Non-Executive Director to SFC

     The Financial Secretary has appointed Mr Wong Kai-man as a Non-Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive for a term of two years, with effect from tomorrow (May 26) to May 25, 2011.

     Mr Wong has more than 30 years of experience in the audit field.  In 2005, he retired as an audit partner from PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong.  Mr Wong was also a member of the Listing Committee of the Growth Enterprise Market of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong from 1999 to 2003.  Mr Wong actively participates in public services and charity work.  He is currently a Director of two charity foundations - Victor and William Fung Foundation Limited and Li & Fung (1906) Foundation Limited, and a member of the Council of City University of Hong Kong.

     "With his rich experience in Hong Kong's financial services sector, we are confident that Mr Wong will provide invaluable and constructive advice to the work of the SFC", a government spokesman said today (May 25).

     The government spokesman also paid tribute to the outgoing Non-Executive Director, Dr York Liao. "The service of Dr Liao over the past six years has been instrumental in enhancing the corporate governance, accountability and transparency of the SFC.  We are grateful for his invaluable contributions and we look forward to his continued support in the further development of Hong Kong's financial services sector."

     The SFC currently has seven Non-Executive Directors.  The other serving Non-Executive Directors of the SFC are Mr Christopher Cheng, Mr Chan Kam-lam, Mrs Angelina Lee, Mr Kenneth Kwok, Professor Liu Pak-wai, and Mr Shengman Zhang.
