*******************************************************

Sha Tin District Office and Sha Tin District Council (DC) staged a bus parade today (May 23), touring major housing estates and markets in the district to promote health messages on the prevention of human swine influenza.

Sha Tin District Officer, Mrs Do Pang Wai-yee, Sha Tin DC Chairman, Mr Wai Kwok-hung, and a number of Sha Tin DC members and scouts participated in the event.

Setting off from the Sha Tin Government Offices, the parade buses visited various locations in the district, including Sha Tin Market, Sun Chui Estate, Mei Lam Estate, Kwong Yuen Estate, Chung On Estate and Sunshine City. Health information was broadcast along the routes while pamphlets and disinfectant packs were distributed to residents to urge them to observe good hygiene practices.

Mrs Do said, "The activity aims to appeal for the community's support in the Clean Hong Kong Campaign, and draw residents' attention to the importance of personal, household and environmental hygiene, to guard against and prevent a pandemic. The Sha Tin District Office will continue to work with the Sha Tin DC and related departments to organise more publicity and education programmes to promote cleanliness in the community."

Mr Wai said that Sha Tin DC would continue to organise community activities to encourage public participation in the fight to prevent a pandemic. These include a publicity event featuring drama, a quiz and a seminar to be held at Yiu On Estate, Ma On Shan, on June 13.
