Bus parade promotes public participation in preventing human swine flu (with photo)

     The Eastern District Office and Eastern District Council today (May 23) held a bus parade in the Eastern District to promote the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene to prevent human swine influenza.

     Eastern District Officer Mr Herman Cho Chun-wah, Eastern District Council Chairman Ms Christina Ting Yuk-chee and district council members participated in the promotional activity. A double-decker left from Tin Hau and went to Fortress Hill, Braemar Hill, North Point, Taikoo, Shau Kei Wan, Chai Wan, Siu Sai Wan and Heng Fa Chuen to promote the importance of personal hygiene in flu prevention. Disinfectant packs and human swine influenza pamphlets were distributed to passers-by during the parade.

     Mr Cho said, "Eastern District Office has already set up a working group on organising a cleaning campaign in the district. The working group will monitor the conditions of environmental hygiene blackspots, and co-ordinate with relevant government departments to carry out cleaning." He stressed that his office would continue to work closely with the Eastern District Council to formulate measures to improve community cleanliness.

     Ms Ting said that Eastern District Council attached great importance to the matter. The council would, together with the District Office carry out a cleaning campaign targeting old private buildings without owners' organisations. Cleaning will be carried out in the common areas of those buildings. The campaign aimed to improve the living environment of the residents and to promote the importance of household hygiene in flu prevention. She urged the public to actively participate and support the cleaning activities in the district, as an effort to build a healthy community.
