The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a piano recital by local pianist Dr Amy Sze at 8pm on June 22 (Monday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall.
Masterpieces to be played by Dr Sze include Mozart's "Sonatensatz in B-flat, K400", "Rondo in A Minor, K511", Schumann's "Fantasy in C, Op. 17", Scriabin's "Sonata No. 3 in F-sharp Minor, Op. 23", Dohnˆhnyi / Delibes's "Waltz from 'Coppˆmlia' ", Strauss / Schulz-Evler's "Arabesques on 'On the Beautiful Blue Danube' ".
She studied with Nelita True, Gabriel Kwok and Chui-fun Poon, and holds Performer's Certificate and Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music. She attended the Aspen Summer Music Festival in Colorado, the TCU Cliburn Piano Institute in Texas and the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg and has performed on the Mainland, and in Europe and the United States.
Dr Sze was a winner of the 2001 Eastman Concerto Competition and the national finalist of the 2003 MTNA Steinway-Collegiate Artist Piano Competition in the United States. She has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras, such as the Texas Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra, Eastman Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Hong Kong Sinfonietta. She has also collaborated with distinguished artists including David Childs, Peter Cooper, Stephen Framil, Adam Frey, Yoshiyuki Ishikawa, Jacques Mauger, Eric Speller and Kenneth Tse. Sze also has a keen interest in chamber music and accompaniment. She and her piano quartet were invited to perform in the 2006 Le French May Festival. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart, she and violinist Benedict Cruft presented a concert series of complete Mozart sonatas on fortepiano and Baroque violin.
Dr Sze was a teaching assistant in piano studies, accompaniment and chamber music at the Eastman School of Music. She is currently on the faculty of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
