SEN to attend climate summit in Seoul

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Edward Yau, will leave Hong Kong this afternoon (May 18) to attend the C40 Large Cities Climate Summit Seoul 2009 in South Korea.

     During the visit, Mr Yau will meet representatives from leading cities around the world to exchange experiences and views on the fight against climate change. They will review progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, assess future challenges and act on combating climate change.

     On May 19, he will attend the summit opening ceremony and meet the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Peopleˇ¦s Republic of China to the Republic of Korea, Mr Cheng Yonghau.  

     In the afternoon, Mr Yau will pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea, Mr Lee Maan-ee.

     He will speak at the summit plenary session on Engaging Stakeholders in the Fight Against Climate Changes and attend the C40 General Assembly on May 20.  He will also visit Cheonggbyecheon Museum.

     On May 21, he will attend the press conference to announce the Seoul Declaration and visit Korea Environment & Resources Corporation before returning to Hong Kong.
