Light refreshment and bakery stalls and service trade stalls to be introduced in public markets
************************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) will introduce light refreshment and bakery stalls and service trade stalls in six public markets through open auctions next month.

"The scheme aims at enhancing the variety of public market services and making better use of vacant market stalls, with a view to increasing  patronage and further improving the business environment," an FEHD spokesman said today (May 15).

The FEHD will introduce eight light refreshment and bakery stalls in three public markets - Yee On Street Market (two stalls) and Lei Yue Mun Market (two stalls) in Kwun Tong District, and Plover Cove Road Market (four stalls) in Tai Po District; and a total of 33 service trade stalls will be introduced into four public markets, namely Aldrich Bay Market (four stalls) and Sai Wan Ho Market (eight stalls) in Eastern District, Luen Wo Hui Market (17 stalls) in North District, and Plover Cove Road Market (four stalls) in Tai Po District.

Light refreshment and bakery stalls are allowed to sell local snacks, such as fish balls, beef offal, fried bean curd and peppers stuffed with minced fish, and egg-shaped waffles, confectionery, cakes and biscuits.  Permitted service trades include domestic services agencies, beauty/manicure/massage parlours, Chinese medicine practitioners/bone-setters' clinics, estate agencies and computer-related services.

The upset prices of monthly rental of stalls may vary, depending on their size and location. The upset prices for light refreshment and bakery stalls range from $2,200 to $6,500 and from $1,100 to $9,300 for service trade stalls.

"The first open auction to let out these stalls in Tai Po District and North District has been scheduled for June 18 and those for other districts will be held shortly afterwards in June. Any person ordinarily resident in Hong Kong aged 18 years or above can take part in the auctions," the spokesman said.
