Two travellers taken to hospital for observation

     A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) today (May 9) said two travllers arriving at Hong Kong had been taken to Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) for observation.

     The spokesman said the action was taken upon receiving notification from the World Health Organization (WHO) today that three Japanese passengers on board a plane of Northwest Airlines (flight no. NW 025) arrived in Tokyo from Canada via the United States on May 8 were confirmed to have been infected with human swine influenza (Influenza A H1N1)and that among the passengers on this flight, 13 had been transferred to other places.

     :The two intercepted in Hong Kong are among the 13 passengers who already left Japan.

     :One of the two travellers being admitted to PMH arrived in Hong Kong last night and was located by DH・s public health officers at a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel this afternoon. The other one was intercepted by the DH・s Port Health officers upon his arrival at the Airport from Taiwan this evening,; the spokesman said.

     The two travellers have so far developed no symptoms of influenza.

     :The DH is liaising with other health authorities overseas to obtain more information on the three cases and the whereabouts of the other 11 passengers who have left Japan.
