*******************************************************

Two Hong Kong films, ˇ§Beast Stalkerˇ¨ and ˇ§Claustrophobiaˇ¨ were screened at the 52nd San Francisco International Film Festival.

ˇ§These two movies are excellent pieces which illustrate the creativity and dedication of our film talents,ˇ¨ said Ms Doris Cheung, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco.

Addressing an audience of more than 100 guests at a reception in honour of the screening of ˇ§Claustrophobiaˇ¨ and director and scriptwriter, Ms Ivy Ho, Ms Cheung said that Hong Kong had a film-making history of a hundred years and film was a key element of Hong Kongˇ¦s creative industries.

ˇ§Being a cosmopolitan city where east meets west, coupled with free flow of information and talents, Hong Kong has been an ideal place for talents from all over the world to unleash their creativity and pursue their dreams.

ˇ§The Film Development Fund has been running smoothly since the injection of US$38.5 million (HK$300 million) by the Government to encourage more commercial investment in film productions and to create more employment opportunities for local film makers,ˇ¨ said Ms Cheung.

ˇ§We also facilitate our film industry to explore other markets through organising the annual Hong Kong Entertainment Expo, which has become an important forum for business deals, screenings, and recognition of industry excellence in Asia.  Hong Kong also offers unrivalled partnership opportunity for overseas production houses to explore the Mainland and Southeast Asia markets,ˇ¨ she concluded.
