The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
A company director and three employers were today (May 5) fined $14,000 at the Kwun Tong Magistracy after being convicted of offences under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485).
Siu Mei Ling, director of Power Properties Management Limited, was charged under section 7A(8) and section 44 of the ordinance. The defendant pleaded guilty to four counts of failing to make MPF contributions for an employee within the prescribed time for the contribution periods between April and July 2008. The defendant was fined a total of $4,000.

Mung Sheung Hang pleaded guilty to an offence under section 7(1) of the Ordinance. The defendant was fined $3,000 for failing to enrol an employee in an MPF scheme.
Goldfinch Restaurant Limited was also charged under section 7(1) of the ordinance and was fined $3,000 for failing to enrol an employee in an MPF scheme.
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today also pursued 11 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $270,000 on behalf of 64 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
Four defendants, Nam's Co-operation Limited, Form Glass Enterprises Limited, Rotegear Corporation Limited and Yam Chi Fai trading as Jetstrong Metal Works, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $34,456.32, $29,322.96, $20,938.01 and $12,461.25 being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other seven defendants, Max Production Printing Limited formerly known as Max Production Printing & Book-binding Limited, Lo Po Shun formerly trading as Shun Tat Debt Collection Service Co, Cheng Kwok Cheung trading as Jetone Engineering Company, Polyaim Ltd trading as The Wanch, Acu International Company Limited, Polywin Consultants Limited and Wong Kong Yiu Nigel trading as N K Wong & Co, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $46,533.62, $45,867.67, $42,650.82, $41,580, $1,492.72, $339.10 and $282.50, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $230, $126, $180, $129, $246, $260, $250, $215, $86, $76,and $140.
