CE mourns passing of Eddie Hui

     The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, today (May 4) expressed profound sadness at the passing of ex-Commissioner of Police, Mr Eddie Hui, and conveyed his deepest condolences to Mr Hui's family.

     "Mr Hui was held in high regard by both his colleagues and members of the public. He was at the helm of the police force during Hong Kong's transition into a Special Administrative Region of China. His leadership had provided stability and enhanced professionalism in the police force during that critical period. Mr Hui also pioneered a service-oriented culture in the department, which has helped earn wide community respect and support for our police force,"Mr Tsang said.

     Mr Hui was appointed Commissioner in 1994. He retired at the beginning of January 2001, and was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in the same year.
