The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will leave Hong Kong tonight (May 3) for a four-day official visit to Brussels and London. Professor Chan will meet with Belgian and British finance officials and prominent business executives to promote Hong Kong as an international financial centre. He will also exchange views with them on measures to deal with the global financial crisis as well as financial market regulatory reform.
Arriving Brussels tomorrow (Monday), Professor Chan will call on Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Belgium, Mr Didier Reynders, Governor of National Bank of Belgium, Mr Guy Quaden, and Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission, Mr Lˆhszlˆu Kovˆhcs.
On Tuesday, Professor Chan will call on the Chairman of the Management Committee, Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission, Mr Jean-Paul Servais. Professor Chan will also deliver a keynote speech at a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels and the Belgium-Hong Kong Society before departing for London in the afternoon.
During his visit in London, Professor Chan will call on the Financial Services Secretary to the Treasury of the HM Treasury, Lord Myners, Chairman of the Financial Services Authority, Lord Turner, and members of the Parliament. He will meet with leading executives from the London Stock Exchange, British Bankers¡¦ Association and representative of the Lord Mayor of City of London.
Professor Chan will also join the Parliamentary Dinner with All Party Parliamentary China Group hosted by the Hong Kong Association and attend a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London. At these occasions, Professor Chan will update guests about the latest situation in Hong Kong especially developments in the financial market.
While in London, Professor Chan will meet with Hong Kong students at a tea gathering.
Professor Chan will return to Hong Kong on May 7.
