Situation report on human swine influenza
*****************************************

A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) said the staff and lodgers of Metropark Hotel in Wan Chai had been interviewed by public health personnel of the Centre for Health Protection (CHP).  Among them, 29 were confined at Lady Maclehose Holiday Village, a designated site, for quarantine.

The 25-year-old Mexican man (Index patient) who was confirmed to have been infected with human swine flu is still under treatment in Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). He is now in stable condition.

Four people who had been in close contact with the index patient, comprising three men and a woman, are being isolated in PMH.  They are all in stable condition.

The spokesman said seven of the 36 passengers who sat close to the index patient on China Eastern Airlines (flight No. MU 505) had left Hong Kong.  The CHP staff had interviewed the rest and they have been hospitalized or quarantined.

Up to 4pm today, the CHP¡¦s hotline 2125 1111 has received 698 calls since it was set up on April 30.

CHP has contacted the taxi driver who had taken the index patient from the hotel to hospital through the hotline.

Meanwhile, CHP would contact another taxi driver who was earlier located to ascertain if he had taken the index patient to Metropark Hotel from the Airport.

The spokesman said: ¡§Their cooperation is important as the taxis involved might have been contaminated and other passengers they served in the past two day might have been infected.¡¨

A daily update on swine influenza in humans is now available on the CHP website (www.chp.gov.hk).
