SLW tours school and welfare organisations in North District (with photos)
************************************************************

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, visited a secondary school and two welfare organisations in North District this (April 30) afternoon.

Mr Cheung first visited the office of the Hong Kong Women Development Association at Ka Fuk Estate in Fanling to get an update on the short-term food assistance service it operates for those in need in Sha Tin, Tai Po and North Districts.

A total of 7,658 people have benefited from five such programmes territory-wide since their introduction two months ago.

Mr Cheung then went to Elegantia College in Sheung Shui where he exchanged views with teachers and students on the employment outlook for students and other current issues.

Mr Cheung impressed upon the students the importance of life-long and continuing education and the need to better equip themselves for the employment market.

The last stop was the Precious Blood Children's Village of Sisters of the Precious Blood at Lung Yeuk Tau in Fanling. Mr Cheung toured the dormitory and other facilities there and chatted with the staff and girls to better understand their work and life in the village. The non-government organisation provides a children's home service to girls in need of institutional care and protection because of family problems.
