The following is issued on behalf of the Broadcasting Authority:

     In April, the Broadcasting Authority (BA) approved the application by Master Asia Enterprises Limited for an ˇ§other licensable television programme service licenceˇ¨ for the provision of television programme service in hotel rooms in Hong Kong. The period of validity of the licence is 12 years, from April 15, 2009, to April 14, 2021 (both dates inclusive). There are now altogether 27 ˇ§other licensable television programme serviceˇ¨ licensees providing services to more than 80 hotels in Hong Kong.

     The BA noted that in March 2009, the Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing (CTEL) dealt with 103 cases (888 complaints) under her delegated authority, of which three cases (three complaints) were classified as minor breaches and 76 cases (852 complaints) were unsubstantiated.  The remaining 24 cases (33 complaints) were held to be outside the ambit of the Broadcasting Authority Ordinance.  The monthly complaints figures dealt with by CTEL since March 2008 are shown in Figure 1.  A chart showing the respective natures of the unsubstantiated complaints in March 2009 is at Figure 2.  Please visit the BA website: www.hkba.hk for further information of the complaints.
