Eight employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 27) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $199,000 on behalf of 23 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Five defendants, Jinda Engineering Company Limited, Smart Federal Limited, Sea Fame (China) Limited, Keen Centre Limited and Tse Hung Ying trading as Yu Hong Express Co, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $42,300, $37,925.78, $34,272, $9,354.24 and $787.50 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other three defendants, Huang Fa Tu trading as Jetfair Furniture Factory, Brainson Limited and Hoover Technologies Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $40,445, $23,809.24 and $9,961.86, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $160, $235, $176, $80, $109, $209, $215, and $166.

     Brainson Limited was previously convicted on eight counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $21,000.
