The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in March showed an increase of 469 cases over February, representing an increase of 0.2%, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (April 22).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of March stood at 289,469 (see attached table), with a total of 478,562 recipients.
Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed an increase of 1.5% to 33,379.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month increase of 0.02% to 36,838.
Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.4% to stand at 16,306.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $18 billion for 2007-08.
