Learning to play a musical instrument through a comprehensive training course not only helps young people develop their music talent, but also stimulates their creativity and enhances their interest in art.
The Instrumental Music Training Scheme, organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is now recruiting Intermediate Year-one and Advanced Year-one trainees for 2009-10. The deadline for applications is May 18.
With an annual enrolment of nearly 5,000 trainees, from elementary to advanced level, the scheme provides training in string, wind and Chinese musical instruments, such as violin, viola, double bass, harp, flute, oboe, saxophone, euphonium, suona, ruan, sanxian, sheng and liuyeqin, supplemented by courses in musicianship and theory to provide trainees with a comprehensive course of music training.
Weekly one-hour group lessons are conducted in Cantonese at the Music Officeˇ¦s five music centres ˇV Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Mong Kok, Sha Tin and Tsuen Wan. Annual tuition fees of $2,420 for intermediate level and $3,190 for advanced level are payable in four instalments. Young players aged 7 to 19 are welcome to apply.
Leaflets and application forms are now available at all music centres of the Music Office or the Music Office website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/musicoffice. Qualified applicants will be invited to attend an audition in June and notified of audition results by mid-August, with training beginning in September.
