The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (April 22) at 11 am in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building. During the meeting, Members will continue the Second Reading debate on the Appropriation Bill 2009 and Government officials will speak on the Bill.
If this Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, it will go to the Committee Stage, during which Hon James To, Hon Emily Lau and Hon Leung Kwok-hung will move 11 resolutions under Rule 69(3) of the Rules of Procedure of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to amend the Bill.
The three resolutions, to be moved by Hon James To, resolve that head 122 be reduced separately by $50,410,000 and $16,998,570, in respect of subhead 000; and head 122 be reduced by $80,000,000 in respect of subhead 103.
In addition, the seven resolutions, to be moved by Hon Emily Lau, resolve separately that head 138 be reduced by $2,680,000, head 141 be reduced by $2,680,000, head 142 be reduced by $1,970,000, head 144 be reduced by $1,970,000, head 151 be reduced by $2,680,000, head 152 be reduced by $1,970,000 and head 158 be reduced by $1,970,000, in respect of subhead 000.
Hon Leung Kwok-hung will also move a resolution to reduce head 144 by $121,000,000 in respect of subhead 000.
After going through the Committee Stage, the Bill will be read the third time.
On Government motion, the Secretary for the Environment will move a resolution under the Product Eco-responsibility Ordinance and the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to approve the Product Eco-responsibility (Plastic Shopping Bags) Regulation, made by the Secretary for the Environment on December 31, 2008, after subjected to amendments.
Members will also ask the Government 20 questions on various policy areas, all of which require written replies.
