HA staff commended for outstanding performance (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) today (April 16) announced its Outstanding Staff and Teams Award for 2009, with six staff members and five healthcare teams from different disciplines of public hospitals and the HA Head Office awarded (list of awardees is appended).  Their dedication and outstanding performance were highly commended for delivering quality patient-centred care and enhancing team spirit and effectiveness of the organisation.

     Dr Anthony Ho, Chairman of the HA's Human Resources Committee, said, "Since their introduction in 1993, the Hospital Authority has been organising these awards yearly as a corporate-wide staff recognition programme to recognise the significant contributions made by staff members.  The objectives of the award are to honour and reward staff members for outstanding performance or exemplary behaviour and to motivate staff to perform and behave in an exemplary way to achieve the goals of the HA.

     "The award winning staff and teams work professionally in their fields excelling in their expertise under ever-changing circumstances.  Their enthusiasm and compassionate commitment are great contributions to patients, to their colleagues, to hospitals and to the community," said Dr Ho.

     HA Chief Executive Mr Shane Solomon said,"The Outstanding Staff and Teams Award is the highest honour the HA bestows upon its staff.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity this afternoon to meet with the role models of the HA family.  Many congratulations to the fantastic winners."

     The selection panel was chaired by Dr Anthony Ho, and comprised Mr Shane Solomon; Hong Kong East Cluster Chief Executive Dr Loretta Yam; HA Head of Human Resources Mr David Rossiter; and a past award winner Dr Doris Tse, Chief of Service (Medicine & Geriatrics/Intensive Care Unit) of Caritas Medical Centre.  

     The awardees were selected from among 56 nominations from various divisions of public hospitals and the HA Head Office according to the following criteria:

A. Professional excellence
B. Exemplary behaviour in:
- caring
- patient (client)-centred
- quality
- dedication
- creativity
- teamwork

     The award presentation ceremony of the Outstanding Staff and Teams Award 2009 will be held at the closing ceremony of the HA Convention on May 5, 2009.
