The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 14) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $86,000 on behalf of 22 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, the nine defendants, namely Talisgold International Limited, Top Smart Property Management Limited, Modern Apex Arts Limited, Wah Fai (Universal) Logistics Limited, Excellence 08 Limited trading as Golden Man Ho Seafood Restaurant, Fameast Limited, East Win Catering Company Limited, Alcove Limited and Well Talent Enterprise Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $20,380.14, $20,226.75, $19,412.16, $16,396.7, $4,251, $2,183.21, $2,155.5, $1,312.5 and $100, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal also ordered the respective defendants to pay $110, $196, $120, $98, $60, $156, $96, $135 and $76 as the costs in respect of the claims.
Talisgold International Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts to five counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $5,000.
