Mainland visit for Immigration officers (with photo)

     A 10-member delegation from the Immigration Department will leave on a study visit to Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou and Shanghai tomorrow (April 15).

     The 11-day visit is aimed at enhancing understanding and co-operation with the relevant Mainland authorities and promoting better working relations with them.

     Assistant Principal Immigration Officer (Deputy Divisional Commander (Border) Vehicles), Mr Leung Si-chor, five officer-grade and four rank-and-file grade staff members will visit their Mainland counterparts to share their work experience. The visit has been arranged by the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO).

     The delegation will visit the HKMAO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Capital International Airport, the Immigration Section of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government¡¦s Beijing Office and the Public Security Bureau, the Foreign Affairs Office, and travel document and exit endorsement issuing offices in various cities.

     The Deputy Director of Immigration, Mr David Chiu Wai-kai, said that following the reunification, co-operation and communication between the department and the relevant Mainland authorities were increasing. "With a view to facilitating an exchange of knowledge and experience between our officers and their Mainland counterparts, we consider that regular study visits to the Mainland are highly desirable," Mr Chiu said.

     The delegation will return to Hong Kong on April 25.
