A series of "Elite Athletes' Demonstration and Exchange" activities have been arranged for athletes participating in the 2nd Hong Kong Games (HKG) to help them prepare for competitions.
The 2nd HKG, a territory-wide major multi-sport event with the 18 districts as participating units, will be held from May 9 to 31. Athletes representing the districts are now in the final stage of preparation following the launching ceremony at the Arcade of the Kowloon Park on February 28.
Six sports competitions - athletics, badminton, basketball, table tennis, swimming and tennis - will be held in the 2nd HKG. To assist the district athletes to prepare for the Games and to boost their confidence, the event organiser has arranged a series of "Elite Athletes' Demonstration and Exchange" sessions to cover these six sports. Demonstration sessions on tennis, badminton and table tennis were held in March.
The demonstration and exchange sessions on the remaining three sports - basketball, swimming and athletics - will be held tomorrow (April 11), April 25 and April 26 respectively. Related National Sports Associations have arranged coaches and athletes to give talks and demonstrations on the sports. Friendly matches with the athletes from the 18 districts will also be held. Staff of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University will be present to give talks on prevention and recovery from injury. There are opportunities for district athletes to question elite athletes and coaches so they can learn more about the sports techniques and competition strategies.
