Voter Registration Campaign launched
************************************

The 2009 Voter Registration campaign to encourage eligible people to register as electors, began today (April 9).

Hong Kong permanent residents holding an identity document who have reached the age of 18 years and ordinarily reside in Hong Kong are eligible to be registered as electors.

"Eligible residents who have yet to register as electors are reminded to sign up before the registration deadline on May 16, so they can vote in future Legislative Council and District Council elections," a spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) said today.

"Registered electors do not have to register again, but they should report any change in address or other registration particulars to the REO by June 29, or their eligibility to vote in the elections may be affected.

"Electors are encouraged to provide or update their email addresses. The email address will be provided to the candidates concerned for sending election advertisements," the spokesman said.

The REO will make its appeal to the eligible people through publicity measures such as TV Announcements in the Public Interest (APIs), radio APIs, newspaper advertisements and posters.

Relevant forms for voter registration and report of change in registration particulars are obtainable from the REO, District Offices and management offices of public housing estates. They can also be downloaded from the voter registration website (www.voterregistration.gov.hk).

Completed forms can be submitted by mail to the REO at 10/F, Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, or by fax to 2891 1180.

Enquiries on voter registration can be made to the REO hotline on 2891 1001. Information are also available at the voter registration website.
