Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 3) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $6,800 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by its employer.

     The defendant, Tim Kee Company Limited trading as Tim Kee Roasted Meat Restaurant, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $6,895, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $186.
