The Government published in the Gazette today (April 3) a notice on construction of the Centre Street Escalator Link (Stage 1), which had been authorised by the Chief Executive in Council earlier.
The proposed works include provision of covered escalators on Centre Street between Third Street and the access of Ying Wa Terrace; provision of a two-way covered escalator on Centre Street between the access of Ying Wa Terrace and Bonham Road; provision of stairlifts, a section of staircase and sections of footpaths with covers associated to and adjacent to the proposed escalators; and ancillary works including drainage, landscaping, electrical and mechanical works.
Some sections of the existing carriageway and footpaths/staircase will be permanently or temporarily closed and reconstructed.
Notices for authorisation of the works, both in English and Chinese, have been put up at prominent positions near the site of the proposed works area.
