***********************************************************

In response to media enquiries on a public procession held by a Nepalese organisation to call for a fair investigation into a Police open fire case in Hung Hom on March 17. The Police spokesman said today (March 29):

Police attach high importance to all open fire cases which have resulted in death. Irrespective of the racial background of the deceased, all cases will be thoroughly investigated in a fair, just and impartial manner with a full and detailed report submitted to the coroner¡¦s court to assist the Coroner to decide whether a death inquest is required.

We attach much importance to developing constructive long-term relationships with NEC communities. Officers attached to Police Community Relations Office regularly pay visits to different NEC communities including Nepalese, Philippino, Thai, Indonesian, Indian and Pakistani, and often hold meetings and seminars with them in a bid to promote their awareness and participants in crime prevention. It has long been our hope that through effective communication mutual trust can be established, enabling a harmonious and inclusive society in which the safety of all citizens including NEC can be ensured
