In response to media enquiries about the meeting between the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, and the Consul-General of Nepal (CG of Nepal) this afternoon (March 27) about the Police shooting incident involving a Napalese man, a spokesman for the Home Affairs Bureau said that Ms Hui had sought the CG of Nepal's help to convey HKSAR Government's condolences to the family of the deceased in this unfortunate incident, and conveyed the message that the government would be most willing to offer any possible assistance and the wish to meet the elder brother of the deceased, Mr Limbu, face to face. Ms Hui had also taken the opportunity to brief the Consul-General the services provided by the HKSAR government in helping the ethnic minorities integrate into the community.
Ms Hui said that she had spoken to Mr Limbu over the phone yesterday. In the conversation, she expressed her wish to meet him in person to express the deep condolences of the government, and tried to understand what assistance would be needed during Mr Limbu's stay in Hong Kong, so that the government could cater to his needs. However, Mr Limbu pointed out that he would like to focus on his itinerary in Hong Kong these few days. In that case, she still had not got a chance to meet with Mr Limbu yet.
Ms Hui said with the assistance of the Immigration Department, which was in contact with the Consul-General of Nepal, the family of the deceased including his wife and his daughter would be given full facilitation in obtaining a visa such that their coming to Hong Kong would be as smooth and quickly as possible. Since this message to Mr Limbu had not been conveyed personally yet, Ms Hui hoped the Consul-General could pass the message to Mr Limbu.
