Roving exhibitions to promote Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (with photos)

     A major roving exhibition to promote the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) kicked off today (March 27) in Tuen Mun.

     The exhibition covers the history of the EAG, Hong Kong's achievements in past EAGs, the Hong Kong East Asian Games Gallery, volunteer programme, theme song, countdown, and the graphics and design palette.

     On display are also EAG videos, interactive sports information, memorabilia and mascot standees for photo taking.

     The first large-scale roving exhibition is being staged at Tuen Mun Town Plaza from March 27-29.
  
     Large-scale roving exhibitions in other major shopping centres will also be staged over the next eight months.

     This will include exhibitions at Olympian City 2 in April, Times Square in May, and six other shopping malls in Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories between June and November.

     Thirty-six smaller-scale exhibitions are also being held in the 18 districts from now until December. (Annex)

     "Large-scale and smaller-scale roving exhibitions are part of our programme to inform the public about the East Asian Games," said Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Carrie Yau.

     "Visitors will be able to learn about the 23 sports to be contested in Hong Kong ¡V a record number of sports for an EAG ¡V as well as the venues where they will be staged.

     "We hope that the exhibitions will generate keen interest in Hong Kong's preparations for the largest sporting event of this kind yet to be held in the city.

     "And of course we hope it will encourage people to support the Games by buying tickets to the events, supporting our athletes, and by extending warm welcome and hospitality to visiting athletes and team officials."    

     The exhibitions have been organised by the Information Services Department, in conjunction with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Home Affairs Department, and the 2009 East Asian Games (Hong Kong) Limited.
