Kings View Airconditioning Engineering Company Limited was fined $25,000 and Luen Hop Engineering Company fined $15,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court today (March 26) for violation of Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident on June 6 last year at a Kowloon Bay construction site. A worker fell 4.9 metres to his death when he was dismantling exhaust air ducts on the ceiling of a carpark.
According to Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations 38B (1) and 38B (1A), the contractor must take adequate steps to prevent a person on the site from falling from a height of two metres or more. Any contractor who fails to do so is liable to a fine of $200,000 and imprisonment for 12 months.
