Forum to be held for university students on financial career development

The following is issued on behalf of the Advisory Committee on Human Resources Development in the Financial Services Sector:

     The Advisory Committee on Human Resources Development in the Financial Services Sector (FinMan Committee) and the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration of the Open University of Hong Kong will co-organise a forum on March 31 for university students interested in developing a future career in the financial services industries on employment implications in the global financial crisis.

     Carrying the theme "Hong Kong in the Global Financial Crisis: Human Resources Implications for the Financial Industry", the forum aims to provide a platform for practitioners from the financial services industry to share their ideas with university students on ways to cope with the future challenges and opportunities brought about by the global financial crisis.

     The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan and the President of the Open University of Hong Kong, Professor John C Y Leong, will deliver the keynote speech and opening address at the forum respectively.

     The Chairman of the FinMan Committee, Mr Chan Tze-ching, will act as the moderator of the panel discussion at the forum. Other panellists include the Managing Director of Chief Investment Office Asia of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., Mr Chris Chan; the Managing Director of Human Capital Management of Goldman Sachs, Ms Eva Chau; the Dean and Professor (Chair) of Finance of School of Business of Hong Kong Baptist University, Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung; the Head of Markets and Banking Hong Kong, Citibank, N.A., Mr Alvin Mak; and the Chairman of Korn/Ferry International (Hong Kong) Limited, Mr Andrew Tsui.

     Students of the nine local universities are invited to participate in the forum, in which they will have an opportunity to learn about the valuable views and experience of the prominent figures of the financial services industry on the human resources implications amid the financial crisis.

     The forum is the sixth event of the FinMan Committee's Industry/Academia Collaboration on Nurturing Financial Talent Series.

     The first five events were successfully held in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Lingnan University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

     The FinMan Committee was established in June 2000 by the Government to foster better co-ordination of the efforts between the industry and academia on financial services manpower development. It comprises representatives from the Government, the industry, regulators, professional bodies and training providers.
