The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, started his visit to Singapore today (March 17) to attend an international conference on global security.
He also met Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Wong Kan Seng, at the conference.
The conference, Global Security Asia 2009, is an international conference and exhibition organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Attended by representatives from about 30 countries and regions, it is a global platform for governments, academia, researchers and the homeland security industry to share experiences and exchange expertise on fighting terrorism.
Later in the afternoon, Mr Lee visited Changi Prison and met the Director of Prisons, Mr Ng Joo Hee.
Mr Lee said Hong Kong and Singapore had established long and amicable co-operation in prison and correctional work.
He was briefed on the Yellow Ribbon Project, a nation-wide campaign that aims to encourage, through various programmes and activities, families, employers and the community to give ex-offenders a second chance at life.
The project was launched in 2004 by a community group made up of agencies and organisations that play a major role in the rehabilitation of ex-offenders.
