The Government today (March 13) announced the appointment of a new member and the re-appointment of two incumbent members to the Elderly Commission. The appointments will take effect from April 1.
Ms Sylvia Fung Yuk-kuen has been appointed as a new member to the Commission for a term of two years and four months. She is the Chief Manager (Nursing) of the Hospital Authority and has been involved in nursing services, training and manpower management, with over 34 years of experience.
The two incumbent members who have been re-appointed are Prof Jean Woo and Dr John Wong Yee-him. They have been re-appointed for a term of one year and four months and two years and four months respectively.
The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the new appointment and re-appointments. He said he looked forward to their contributions to the development of elderly services in Hong Kong.
The Elderly Commission was established in 1997 to advise the Government on the formulation of elderly policies, assist in the co-ordination of various programmes for the elderly, and to monitor the implementation of policies and programmes affecting the elderly. They support the policy objective to provide the elderly with a sense of security, a sense of belonging and a feeling of health and self-worth. Members of the Commission include professionals from elderly related services and other sectors, academics, and community leaders.
