Help for Hong Kong residents wounded in Australia car crash

     The Immigration Department has contacted the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong (OCMFA) and the Consulate-General of the Peopleˇ¦s Republic of China in Melbourne (Melbourne CG) after learning of a traffic accident in Victoria, Australia, which involved Hong Kong residents.

     A government spokesman said today (March 5) that initial information indicated that two Hong Kong women were wounded in the accident.  One of the women is in serious condition and the other sustained minor injuries. They have been admitted into a local hospital for treatment.

     Officers from the Melbourne CG have visited the victims in the hospital to offer sympathy and assistance. The Immigration Department has contacted their families to render practical assistance.

     The Immigration Department will continue to closely liaise with the Melbourne CG and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Sydney) to follow up the case.
