Over 500 students from 20 schools, in showing their cooperative and team spirit, today (February 28) joined hands to put up the spectacular mosaiculture display "Jungle Games" at the Victoria Park.
The display features the mascots of the East Asian Games, "Dony" and "Ami", leading a league of lovely jungle athletes at the Jungle Games. All athletes are ready to prove their strength on the track. The display will be exhibited at the coming Hong Kong Flower Show 2009 to be held from March 13-22.
This lively and vivacious league of jungle athletes is created from about 40,000 floral plants, featuring Carnation, Kalanchoe, Marigold, Golden Dewdrop, Cigar Flower, Marguerite, Petunia, Pansy and Dusty Miller, etc. which form a bountiful spectrum of colours, creating a bright and beautiful scene. The track of the sports field is formed by the alternating Lolium penenne and Dusty Miller, while the sports field is peripherally paved with blooming flowers of various species and colours, of which New Guinea Impatiens, Chrysanthemum Multicaule, Dusty Miller and Pansy are amongst them, constituting a richly-coloured and lively scene of the Games. Some of the plant sculptures are also designed with movable parts, adding motion to the spectacular display.
Visitors to the flower show may join "Dony" and "Ami" to give warm welcome to the participating athletes in the East Asian Games as well as tourists and to wish every success to the 2009 East Asian Games.
The annual Hong Kong Flower Show, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held from March 13-22 from 9 am to 9 pm, with "Blossoming Welcome for the East Asian Games" as its theme and "Cosmos" as the show's theme flower.
More than 200 organisations from Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas will take part in the event to showcase some 350,000 plants in landscape and floral art displays.
A series of fringe activities will complement the 10-day flower show for the enjoyment of visitors. They include music and dance performances, green talks, floral art demonstrations, cooking demonstrations and fun games.
Admission tickets to the Hong Kong Flower Show 2009 are available now until March 22 at LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices, and venues with Leisure Link services.
Tickets will also be sold at the entrance to the showground at Victoria Park throughout the show period.
Admission for adults is $14. Children aged four to 14, students, senior citizens aged 60 or over and persons with disabilities pay half price. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities have free admission on weekdays and adults in a group of 30 or more admitted at the same time will pay half price on weekdays.
