The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:
The Basic Law video production cum poster design contest, jointly organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB), is now open for entries.
The themes of the entries should be on Chapter III, ˇ§Fundamental Rights and Duties of the Residents,ˇ¨ and Chapter VI, ˇ§Education, Science, Culture, Sports, Religion, Labour and Social Services,ˇ¨ of the Basic Law.
The contest is co-organised with the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau (CMAB), Education Bureau, Department of Justice and Radio Television Hong Kong; and supported by the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and Infinito Education Studio of Hong Kong.
Since 2004, the CPCE and HAB have been organising territory-wide events to promote the Basic Law. This year, a video production cum poster design contest will be organised which aims to deepen participantsˇ¦ understanding of the Basic Law and to further promote the Basic Law through public participation.
The deadline for submission of entries is April 17, 2009.
Four workshops will be organised in March for which guest speakers will be invited to share with the participants their views of the Basic Law and some helpful hints on video production and poster design. Details are available at the event website (www.basiclawcontest09.hk).
The ceremony to launch the contest will be held at 3pm tomorrow (February 28) at Level One, Atrium, Phase II of Metro City Plaza in Tseung Kwan O.
CPCE Chairman Dr Pang King-chee, Convenor of the CPCE's Basic Law Promotion Working Group, Mr Poon Chun-yuen, representatives from the HAB and CMAB, and event ambassador Mr William Chan will officiate at the ceremony.
Application forms for the competition and the workshops will be distributed at the ceremony.
