Five nominations were received by the Returning Officer for the by-election in the Tai Wai Constituency of the Sha Tin District Council. The two-week nomination period, which started on February 13, ended today (February 26).

The validity of the nominees' candidature will be ruled by the Returning Officer shortly.
If there is more than one validly nominated candidate, voting for a contested election is set for March 29 (Sunday). The returned candidate will fill a vacant office of an elected member in the Sha Tin District Council.
A briefing for candidates and their agents will be held at the Sha Tin District Council Conference Room, 4/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Sha Tin, at 7pm on Tuesday (March 3). The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Pang Kin-kee, will chair the briefing and introduce the guidelines on election-related activities.
A representative from the Independent Commission Against Corruption will explain the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance. The Returning Officer and representatives from the Registration and Electoral Office, the Hongkong Post and the Department of Justice will also be present.
