STH leads shipping mission to Vietnam

     The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Ms Eva Cheng, will leave for Vietnam later today (February 25), leading a 22-member shipping mission to promote Hong Kong's shipping and maritime services.

     The mission is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Members include representatives from the Hong Kong maritime industry and relevant organisations.

     In Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow (February 26), Ms Cheng will open a seminar on Hong Kong's maritime services to introduce to the Vietnamese audience the professional and world-class services in ship finance, taxation, maritime law, arbitration, ship management and ship registration, as well as investment opportunities, offered by Hong Kong.

     Later in the day, the mission will meet the Vice-Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Mr Nguyen Trung Tin, and visit the facilities of Saigon Port and the Maritime Vietnam 2009 Exhibition.

     On Friday (February 27), the mission will arrive in Hanoi to meet the Vietnamese Vice-Minister of Transport, Mr Tran Doan Tho, and visit the Vietnam Maritime Administration.

     During their stay in the country, Ms Cheng and members of the mission will also attend a series of lunch and dinner receptions to meet and exchange views with key players in Vietnam's port, maritime and shipping businesses, local government officials and chairmen of trade associations.
