Renowned composer Mui Kwong-chiu will collaborate with other artists in a multi-media percussion musical theatre extravaganza, "Percussive Colours", next month (March).
Featuring percussionists Lung Heung-wing, Choy Lap-tak and flute virtuoso Ken Wu, "Percussive Colours" incorporates original electronic music, live percussion, original-design visual projections and live images by cinematographer George Chang to form a unique theatrical presentation of percussion, light and colours. The performance comprises six acts using metal, wood, skin, water and qi as the basic artistic elements.
Being an active composer, Mui Kwong-chiu has composed music for various renowned performance groups and music festivals. He is a prolific composer rich in styles and well versed in different musical genres. He is the director of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild, the honorary composer in residence of the Hong Kong Harmonica Association, the adviser of many choirs and the adjudicator for Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival. Mui also contributes scholarly music articles for the Education and Manpower Bureau for teaching purposes.
"Percussive Colours" is one of the entertaining programmes in the "Family Fiesta" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm, March 20 and 21 (Friday and Saturday), and 3pm, March 22 (Sunday), at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre.
Tickets priced at $140 and $180 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group booking and "Family Fiesta Series" schemes.
