Twelve employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 24) pursued 12 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $180,000 on behalf of 44 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal¡¦s hearing today, two defendants, Yue Sang Engineering Ltd and Fidelity Concept Development Limited trading as Royal Plaza Restaurant, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $15,991.76 and $13,901.22 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other 10 defendants, namely Joyful Management & Security Co. Limited, Huang Zhiting formerly trading as Sun Wui Tung Shipping Co, Magic Media Marketing Limited, Star Team Development Limited, Manpower Industrial (H.K.) Limited, Number 1 Transportation Limited, HongKong Bright Holdings Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant, Geevee International Ltd, Videonline Communications (Asia) Limited and Ho Yiu Man trading as Man Kee Poultry Stall, did not appear at today¡¦s hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $41,352.82, $33,694.86, $31,268.65, $18,011.54, $13,661.86, $5,333.76, $4,343.01, $3,448.42, $2,667 and $2,281.56, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the respective defendants to pay $96, $90, $160, $180, $266, $126, $106, $150, $120, $166, $156 and $140 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     HongKong Bright Holdings Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant, Joyful Management & Security Co. Limited and Star Team Development Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to seven, two and three counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined $18,000, $5,500 and $14,000 respectively.
