Stanley Prison inmate found dead

A 30-year-old inmate of Stanley Prison was found by staff unconscious in his cell with a piece of bed sheet tied around his neck shortly after 7am today (February 24).
First aid was immediately given at the scene. The inmate was then sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where he was certified dead at 8.05am.
Police have been informed of the incident and an inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court. Investigations are being conducted by Correctional Services Department.
The inmate, surnamed Tran, was convicted of robbery and sentenced to imprisonment of 56 months. He was admitted to Stanley Prison in November 2006.
